The farm market is slow: what to expect on price
I spoke with Prime Fazendas this week. Their assessment is that the market for farms in Tocantins is currently slow. According to Prime, buyers can expect a discount from the asking price of roughly 10–15%. For the bigger farms, my own guess is that it is closer to 20%.
Please note: this is Prime Fazendas' own assessment, reported to me on 27 September 2026. It is not a guarantee, and the prices listed on the Farms page have not been changed. Every interested party should verify independently.
Cattle reference price
A recent reference point from the farm: young Nelore steers, roughly two months after weaning, averaging 235 kg live weight at R$ 3,600 per head (≈ €600 at the site reference rate of R$ 6 per euro), price at the farm, 27 September 2026.
Male calves are typically weaned at 185–210 kg live weight and then gain roughly 300–400 g per day under extensive rearing, or up to about 700 g per day with more intensive management. These animals are ready to go into fattening. A finished steer weighs about twice as much, roughly 500–550 kg live weight, which is the animal the Economics page uses for its return calculation.
More to come
Prime will send regular market updates after the Brazilian election, and I will publish them here.
